The organization has been operating since the year 1988 i.e. for about last 32 years.There are 48 members in the General Body and 11 members in the Governing Body of the organization. At present there are 29 workers/Staffs are working out of which most of them are experienced and professional. 10 volunteers contribute their services voluntarily in the community level.

VIRD believes and is actively involved in promoting dignity and gender equity through poor people’s social, economic, political and human capacity building. Although the emphasis of VIRD’s work is at the individual level and village level sustaining the work of the organization depends on an environment the permits the poor to break out of the cycle of poverty and hopelessness. To this end, VIRD endeavors to bring about change at the level of national policy on poverty reduction, water and sanitation and social progress. SHORT STAY HOME FOR DESTITUTE WOMEN:
This is one of the project to provide stay for the destitute women, counseling facilities, and vocational training to them. The short stay home contains 30 inmates along with their child with the residential facilities. We are providing the vocational training to them for their self employment. We have better achieved to restore the family through the process of counseling.
The project is also improving quality of the inmates by the way of vocational training so that they are well trained to be supportive members of the family income. This project has been running since last 5 years by the financial support of the Central Social Welfare Board, Govt. of India, New Delhi.
WOMEN HELPLINE PROJECT:
This project is also meant for the destitute women. We provide the destitute women counseling and guidance through their contact by the toll free telephone. The women in problem will contact us through the Toll free telephone, so that our team of counselors will attend them at the spot to redress their problem. This is one of the best activities of the organization and regularly we are greeting the case. This project has been supported by the Dept of Women & Child Development, Govt. of India, New Delhi.

GIRLS HOSTEL
Establishment of Hostel for Disadvantaged Girl Children is in Angul district of Odisha. The Hostel since its establishment in October 2016 provides accommodation, food, toiletries, tuition and trainings on Tailoring and Computer education to its 40 inmates who belong to the poorest of the poor section of the society. All the girl children provided the facility under the project “Sheltered Childhood to Disadvantaged Girl Children in Odisha” supported by McKinsey, Austria.
One Stop Center
VIRD operates a One Stop Center at Deogarh district. The center provides a short shelter, legal assistance health care, police assistance etc. in a single window. It operates on 24 X 7 bases. This is supported by the Dept. of Women and Child Development, Govt. of Odisha.
