established in 2004, desws's mission is to expand the capacity of vulnerable and poor people, especially women and to improve their lives, primarily through increasing their income-earning ability. disha educational and social welfare society has operated as a resource agency for other ngos, government and donor agencies, and also has a field project where it engages with self-reliant poverty reduction strategies in uttar pradesh, uttarakhand, jharkhand, bihar, madhya pradesh and many more. desws's activities reflect its institutional vision, which may be depicted as twin pillars: those of learning and dissemination, and action. the main objective of the society is to help people initiate social change through awareness and motivation. people are divided by different forces which develops a feeling of exploitation among major rural people. the society makes the efforts to bridge the gap between have and have not by creating public opinion and demonstrations on various issues affecting the local people. we also have the intension to bring changes in the lives of persons with disabilities through skill training so that they could be brought in the mainstream.
